Caroline

At Bellbird Hearing, I am committed to providing friendly, professional, and independent audiology care for our local community. I have worked in the hearing industry since graduating from the University of Canterbury in 2011 and am a fully accredited audiologist, able to provide services for ACC, Veterans’ Affairs, and Enable NZ. I understand how important good hearing is for maintaining an active lifestyle — whether that’s keeping up with conversations with family and friends, enjoying social activities, travelling, or staying involved in the things you love. Hearing changes can be gradual, and it’s not always easy to recognise their impact, which is why I take the time to listen, explain options clearly, and support each client at their own pace. Using the latest hearing technology alongside personalised care, my aim is to make the journey to better hearing straightforward and stress-free. At Bellbird Hearing, we focus on practical solutions that help you stay confident, connected, and independent — so you can continue enjoying life to the fullest.

“Staying active and connected is vital as we age. I work closely with my clients to support their hearing journey, helping them communicate with ease and maintain the lifestyle they value.”

Melissa

As an audiologist, I am dedicated to improving the quality of life for my clients through high-quality, personalised hearing care. Since receiving my Masters in Audiology in 2009 I have worked clinically with adults and children in Christchurch, primarily in private practice. As a full member of the New Zealand Audiological Society (NZAS), I can help with all your third-party funding applications (ACC, Veteran’s Affairs, Insurance and Government Subsidies). I obtained a PhD in Audiology from the University of Canterbury in 2015 and continue to learn industry-wide best practices.

Anna

I'm a registered nurse here at Bellbird Hearing with over 30 years' experience working in the nursing profession. I have worked in surgical and medical areas both in New Zealand and in the UK and specialise in ear wax removal. I'm proud to be one of Christchurch’s most experienced ear nurses and always aim for the highest standards of care. Nursing for me is all about caring for and helping people and I am pleased to bring over 14 years of wax removal performance to our service offering at Bellbird Hearing.

Jan

I'm often the first person you’ll speak to when booking an appointment. With close to 27 years’ experience in the hearing care industry, across New Zealand and Australia. I enjoy helping clients find the support they need, over the phone or in person. Here at Bellbird we provide a strong, family focused approach to client care. Whether I’m booking an appointment over the phone or helping a client in clinic, my philosophy has always been to provide client care at a level consistent with how I would treat family.

Michael

I'm a registered nurse with over 35 years of experience - mainly as an intensive care and flight retrieval nurse in New Zealand, but also recently as a primary health nurse in the Netherlands. I'm pleased to have joined the Bellbird team and to be shifting my focus from hospital-based critical care to community-based healthcare. I enjoy working one-to-one with clients and getting to know them. I pride myself on providing high quality clinical skills as well as clear information so that clients leave an appointment well informed and with improved hearing.

My role here at Bellbird is to provide a welcoming and efficient experience for our clients. Before joining the team in a job sharing role with Jan, I was a already a client of Bellbird Hearing and an active user of hearing aids. I enjoy bringing my customer-facing experience from a career in banking, retail, and the building industry to the world of healthcare. I look forward to welcoming you to Bellbird Hearing.

Juliet

As Bellbird's clinic manager and support audiologist for our Christchurch branch, I'm passionate about providing high-quality care and support for all of our clients. I grew up in South Canterbury and since gaining my qualifications I have practiced throughout the Canterbury region for over 17 years. As a full member of the New Zealand Audiological Society (NZAS), I can help with all your third-party funding applications (ACC, Veteran’s Affairs, Insurance and Government Subsidies). I'm proud to lead an independent, 100% Kiwi owned company that focuses on what fittings a client needs, rather than what is supplied. My favourite part of the day is being able to see the joy on clients' faces when they leave hearing better than when they arrived.

Barbara

I'm local to the South Canterbury area and have worked in the hearing industry for the past 20 years. Prior to joining Bellbird Hearing, I worked in the hearing care industry and in hospitality - where customer service is paramount. I enjoy problem solving hearing aid faults, bringing back smiles to our clients' faces when they can begin to enjoy sounds again. Working for a locally owned and operated hearing care business which does the best by each customer we support makes my role all the more enjoyable!

Barbara Brown

Service Coordinator

Bryan

Unlike Juliet, Barbara and Sarah, I am not born and bred in South Canterbury! However I have spent 20-plus years working in the industry throughout the Canterbury region. For over 17 years, I worked for an independent hearing care provider which was then acquired by a multinational corporate. Here at Bellbird Hearing, which is an Independent hearing care provider, I feel I have arrived home. My colleagues here at Bellbird Hearing are passionate about looking after their clients and that very much aligns with my values. I have been a hearing aid wearer myself for over 15 years, so I can relate with hearing loss clients, understand the benefits but also understand some of the challenges. I hope I can help Bellbird Hearing be the number one hearing health care provider here in South Canterbury and for you, our customers.

Carol

I am delighted to be working at Bellbird Hearing here in Timaru with Juliet, Barbara and Bryan and the team. I moved to the South Canterbury region from Mosgiel 21 years ago and it was the best move for my whole family.I have worked in the hearing industry for four years and understand the importance of care and compassion. I am job sharing alongside Barbara and enjoy meeting and greeting of all our lovely clients.

Sarah

I am so excited to have joined the Bellbird Hearing team as an ear nurse. This locally owned and operated business really cares about your hearing experience, and focuses on ensuring you get the best hearing aid to support your quality of life. I was born and raised in rural South Canterbury and live here with my husband and young son. I became a registered nurse eight years ago, initially with a career in aged care. I then became an occupational health nurse, which is where I gained my qualification and skills as an ear health nurse. It’s not very often an opportunity to comes along to specialise in ear health and I look forward to assisting with all your ear health concerns.

Lloyd

In terms of the hearing care industry background, I established the Hearing Advantage Audiology clinics which provided services throughout Christchurch, Timaru, and the upper South Island. Following on from the success of this organisation, I launched Bellbird Hearing in 2020 with my colleague John Gourley and operate as the Board Chair. I currently hold a number of senior governance roles across healthcare, education and commercial operations across New Zealand. For me, Bellbird Hearing is another great way to provide the local community with a truly valuable and important service - right across the Canterbury region.

John 02

I've worked in audiology, both in Canterbury and overseas for over 20 years. My experience includes being Head of Audiology at Christchurch Hospital for 10 years, where I helped establish cochlear implant services in Christchurch. During my time, I oversaw the children’s hearing aid service programme in Canterbury, guest lectured in audiology at Canterbury University and co-authored several research papers on electrocochleography. I felt inspired to become involved with Bellbird Hearing after seeing the need for a truly independent, patient-focused hearing care service in Christchurch.
